IT. IS. TIME.
If this is your first time on the blog, welcome! Back in early 2020, we gutted our kitchen just a few months after moving into our house. You can see all the before and afters here, but this post is gonna be ALL about the money!!
I can’t believe how far we’ve come. This process has been simultaneously one of the most stressful experiences of my life, and also one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
This is a pretty long, technical post, so we’re jumping right in for this one without much of an intro: if you want to know how to paint Semihandmade Doors for Ikea cabinets, we’ve got EVERYTHING you need right here!
We will forever stan all things Ikea. But planning and ordering an Ikea kitchen never comes without its fair share of headaches and little Ikea quirks. So grab some Swedish meatballs and a cinnamon bun, and let’s get down to business:
Never in my life did I think I’d have to learn this much about paint. I had long conversations with PPG reps and salespeople. Spent hours and hours reading forums and watching videos. Drove to 5 or 6 different stores trying to get the best price…
And in the end, I ended up feeling really comfortable spraying both of these products and we are really happy with the finish on our cabinets.
Guys, I am SO EXCITED for PHASE 2 of this renovation! Our mudroom, downstairs bathroom, and laundry room/butler’s pantry: 3 rooms, about 300 square feet… And we’re gutting all of it.
I have always had a weird obsession with mudrooms + multi-purpose entry spaces. When we first looked at the photos of this house online, I remember yelling “IT HAS A MUDROOM” and when we saw it in person, I knew it had so much potential behind its puke green walls and cream linoleum floors.
I LOVE picking out flooring. I think flooring can make or break a space, and it can change the character + feel of a house SO much… for better or worse. This felt like the biggest decision we’d have to make in designing our house, and we definitely felt the pressure.
5 Things I Wish I Knew Before Painting Our Kitchen Cabinets
Here we go, folks. The thing I was MOST nervous for in this kitchen renovation: painting our kitchen cabinets. I had no idea how to paint Semihandmade cabinet doors, but I spent hours and hours on the phone talking to professional painters, reading paint forums, binge watching YouTube channels… and everyone gave slightly different advice. In the end, you just have to learn from experience, because you likely won’t have the exact same materials + tools as any other painter or DIYer! So I’m here to tell you what I WISH we knew before I started!
